How did you join the RGF team?

In the year 2021, I embarked on a remarkable journey with Raising Gabdho Foundation (RGF) that would forever change my life. It was a time of great anticipation and excitement as I had just completed my final semester at university, eagerly awaiting my graduation. Little did I know that joining RGF under their Youth Empowerment Program would be the stepping stone to a heartwarming story of growth, resilience, and finding my true purpose.

As I walked through the doors of RGF, I was filled with a mixture of nervousness and hope. The program aimed to provide young individuals like myself with a firsthand experience of real work, guiding us in making informed career choices. It was a golden opportunity to gain practical knowledge and explore various departments within the organization.

For two months, I immersed myself in the vibrant and dynamic atmosphere of RGF, working across different functions and embracing new challenges with an open heart. The program allowed me to navigate through various departments, providing a glimpse into the diverse possibilities that lay before me. Each day brought a fresh perspective, inspiring me to search for my true calling amidst the labyrinth of opportunities.

During my interviews, Sarah, the team leader, noticed something special in me. She believed that I had the potential to excel in project implementation, a role that held immense promise and excitement. Having recently completed my studies in accounting and harboring ambitions to pursue ACCA, this unexpected shift in direction gave rise to a whirlwind of emotions. However, with Sarah's guidance, mentorship, and unwavering belief in my abilities, I mustered the courage to embrace this new path.

The day of my graduation arrived, and it unfolded in a way that I never could have imagined. Amidst the challenges and uncertainties brought about by the pandemic, my colleague and I, both graduating at work, decided to create a celebration of our own. We gathered in the familiar confines of the office, basking in the joy and sense of accomplishment that graduation brings. It was an unforgettable moment, a testament to the resilience and determination that defined our journey.

With my background in accounting, I initially envisioned myself operating within the finance department at RGF. However, upon joining, I discovered that the department was already well-staffed, leaving me with a tinge of uncertainty. But fate had a different plan in store for me, one that would open my eyes to the incredible work RGF was doing in the community. As I delved deeper into the organization's sustainability efforts, a newfound passion emerged, transcending my initial expectations and aspirations.

Time passed, and with each passing day, my appreciation for RGF's work grew stronger. I realized that I had the power to make a meaningful impact within the organization, combining my educational background with the valuable experiences gained at RGF. Fueling my passion further, I embarked on a journey of self-improvement, currently studying a professional project management course, with aspirations to pursue more courses aligned with this newfound calling.

In the end, my story with Raising Gabdho Foundation is not just about finding a job or building a career. It is a story of self-discovery, resilience, and the power of embracing unexpected opportunities. It is a story that has touched my heart, reminding me that sometimes the most beautiful chapters in life unfold when we are willing to step out of our comfort zones and allow ourselves to be guided by the winds of change.

And so, as I continue my journey with RGF, I am filled with gratitude for the experiences that have shaped me, the people who have believed in me, and the endless possibilities that lie ahead. My story is still being written, and I can't wait to see what the future holds. I am currently studying a professional project management course and plan to study more courses in this line.

What’s a typical day like for you?

Every morning at Raising Gabdho Foundation (RGF) begins with a collaborative review of the previous day's work with my team. We gather together, discussing our accomplishments, challenges, and outlining our plans for the day ahead. This meeting serves as an opportunity to make any necessary adjustments and ensure everyone is aligned and equipped with the resources they need to excel in their tasks. As part of my role, I take on the responsibility of checking in with the project team, ensuring that everyone is on track and well-prepared to contribute to our collective goals. Collaboration with cross-functional teams plays a vital role in our work, as we understand the importance of leveraging diverse expertise to drive meaningful impact.

Throughout the day, my schedule is often filled with various meetings. I utilize every minute efficiently, reading and responding to emails, updating reports, and undertaking other tasks that support the team's activities and contribute to the overall success of our projects. It is during these moments that I prioritize supporting my colleagues, providing guidance and assistance whenever needed.

As the day progresses, I find that my peak delivery time typically sets in around 4 pm when there is a sense of calm and focus in the office. At this time, you will often find the leading team at RGF coming together to reflect on the day's progress and plan our next course of action. This reflective and forward-thinking approach allows us to continuously refine our strategies and ensure that we are making the most of our efforts.

In summary, a typical workday for me at RGF is characterized by collaboration, adaptability, and a commitment to supporting the team's activities. It involves engaging in meaningful discussions, attending to various responsibilities, and seizing opportunities to contribute to our overarching goals. Each day brings its unique set of challenges and triumphs, but through teamwork and a shared vision, we strive to create positive change in our community.

Do you have any hobbies or favorite pastimes outside of work?

Outside of work, I have a few hobbies and favorite pastimes that bring me joy and fulfillment. Over time, my interests have evolved, and I have discovered new passions that resonate with me.

While I used to enjoy watching lifestyle movies, my current interest lies in community-based documentaries. I find them to be incredibly insightful and inspiring, as they shed light on the experiences and stories of different communities. Through these documentaries, I am able to gain a deeper understanding of diverse cultures, social issues, and the resilience of individuals within communities.

Furthermore, I have recently developed a strong desire to learn swimming. I see it as a way to connect with nature and find a sense of tranquility. Being able to swim will not only provide me with an enjoyable physical activity but also allow me to immerse myself in natural environments such as lakes, rivers, or the ocean. It will be a new experience that allows me to reflect, rejuvenate, and appreciate the beauty of the natural world.

Engaging in these hobbies and pursuing new interests outside of work helps me maintain a balanced lifestyle. They provide me with opportunities for relaxation, personal growth, and exploration.
