Re:BUiLD has experimented with different service options to support individual clients to either find jobs or start/grow their own businesses, while managing financial risks.
At community level, we are focusing on capacity sharing with Neighborhood Development Committees in Nairobi and Local Councils in Kampala, refugee-led organizations and city governments. Re:Build is using an integrated value chain approach to maximize impact and partnership. Re:BUiLD partnered with Vocational Training Institutes to provide market demanded skills to clients to equip them with practical skills for the job market. Upon completion of the technical training the program provided support on job readiness and entrepreneurship skills to enhance their access to job opportunities. The areas clients were trained on include green energy, beauty and cosmetics, textile, digital skills, mechanics, catering creative arts, electrical installation, solar among others. |
Progress to date
In Nairobi as of 2024, a total of 1046 clients (79 female, 365 male, 2 other) received vocational training services, including 657 refugees and 389 host community members. According to the latest wage survey results, 44% of these clients have gained wage employment, with 13% securing formal salaried positions and 44% engaging in self-employment.
In Kampala as of 2024, a total of 949 clients (637 female, 312 male) received vocational training services, including 586 refugees and 363 host community members.
